3 February 2026, 22:55  France: CAC 40 Closes Flat.

The CAC 40 closed marginally lower at 8,175 on Tuesday, consolidating after recent gains as weakness in luxury and selected growth names offset continued strength in energy, banks, and defensives. Heavyweights LVMH, Hermes, and L’Oreal fell between 0.6% and 1.7%, extending pressure on the luxury sector amid ongoing demand concerns and profit taking after the January rebound. Technology and communication services also weighed, with Capgemini and Publicis plunging more than 9% after disappointing updates, while STMicroelectronics (-2.5%) and Dassault Systemes (-3.5%) also declined. In contrast, energy stocks outperformed, with TotalEnergies rising 1.4% alongside firmer oil prices, while banks including Societe Generale and Credit Agricole gained 1.2% and 1.4%. Attention now turns to the ECB’s policy decision later this week, where rates are expected to remain unchanged, keeping the focus on forward guidance amid subdued inflation and uneven growth across the EU.
