20 February 2026, 16:01  India: Sensex Closes Slightly Higher.

India's BSE Sensex finished about 0.4% up at 82,814.7 after a choppy session on Friday, partly reflecting a technical bounce following the sharp sell-off in the previous day. However, sentiment stayed cautious amid ongoing US-Iran tensions, worries about AI disruptions and uncertainty over the Federal Reserve’s rate-cut path. On the data front, flash PMI data showed India's private sector activity accelerated to a three-month high in February, driven primarily by strong manufacturing output. The major gainers among stocks included NTPC (2.7%), Larsen & Toubro (2.4%), Hindustan Unilever (1.7%), PowerGrid (1.3%), Tata Steel (1.3%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.1%), Bharat Electronics (1%) and Bajaj Finance (0.9%) were among the top performers. In contrast, Tech Mahindra (-1.75%), Eternal (-1.3%), Infosys (-1.2%), Bharti Airtel (-0.8%) and HCL Technologies (-0.8%) posted the biggest declines. For the week, the index rose about 0.2%.
