2 February 2026, 21:58 United Kingdom: FTSE 100 Rebounds to New Record High.
The FTSE 100 rose 1.2% to a fresh record above 10,340 on Monday, recovering from earlier losses as the selloff in metals prices eased and broader sentiment improved. Defensive heavyweights led the rebound, with AstraZeneca up 3.2%, GSK rising 2.5%, British American Tobacco gaining 1.5%, and Unilever 1.1%. Metals prices remained lower on the day but pared steep earlier declines, allowing miners to stabilize. Rio Tinto and Anglo American finished more than 0.5% higher, while Glencore was flat. Meanwhile, Endeavour, Fresnillo and Antofagasta recorded losses of 2.3%, 0.5% and 0.4%. Beyond commodities, UK data supported the index, with Nationwide showing house prices rising 0.3% in January, business confidence hitting an eight-month high, and manufacturing activity continuing to expand.
