19 February 2026, 11:19  Indonesia: Rupiah Stabilizes as BI Keeps Policy Rate on Hold.

The Indonesian rupiah traded around IDR 16,900 per dollar on Thursday afternoon, after briefly touching an intraday low of IDR 16,955, after the central bank kept its key rate unchanged at 4.75% for a fifth straight meeting, in line with expectations. Governor Perry Warjiyo said that Bank Indonesia remains focused on stabilizing the rupiah and strengthening monetary policy transmission. Policymakers also noted solid foreign exchange reserves in January, which support efforts to anchor the currency. On the GDP front, the board maintained its 2026 growth outlook at 4.9%–5.7%, higher than 4.7%–5.5% for 2025, though growth is still seen below potential. While authorities have cut rates by a cumulative 150bp since September 2024, Warjiyo reiterated room for further easing amid a mild inflation outlook for 2026–2027. Externally, the dollar index held firm around 97.7 after strong U.S. data and hawkish Fed minutes boosted the greenback.
