17 February 2026, 12:23  Italy: FTSE MIB Drifts Higher.

The Italian FTSE MIB rose 0.2% to around 45,500 in early trading on Tuesday, taking a breather after five consecutive subdued sessions and moving in line with most of its European counterparts. Gains were led by heavyweight financials, including UniCredit (+0.9%), Intesa Sanpaolo (+0.8%), Assicurazioni Generali (+0.7%), and Mediobanca (+1.2%). Other notable gainers included Enel (+1.0%), Snam (+0.6%), and Italgas (+0.7%). On the flip side, gains were capped by tech-related shares, weighed down by lingering concerns over AI disruptions, with Prysmian and STMicroelectronics down 2.7% and 1.3%, respectively. Defence stock Leonardo SpA (-1.8%) and industrial firm Buzzi Unicem (-1.4%) were also in the red. On the economic front, investors now await Italy’s December trade balance figures, with the surplus expected to narrow.
