16 February 2026, 03:22 Australia: Shares Open the Week Higher.
The S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.3% to 8,943 on Monday, extending last week’s strong gains as investors positioned for a heavy slate of corporate earnings and looked ahead to the release of the Reserve Bank of Australia meeting minutes. Retailer JB Hi-Fi jumped 5.1% after reporting a 7% rise in sales, lifting first-half profit to $306 million. Moreover, A2 Milk surged 8.3% to a near one-month high after posting a stronger half-year net profit of $112 million and upgrading its sales growth guidance to mid-double-digit growth. GPT Group added 0.3% after delivering a full-year profit of $981 million. In contrast, BlueScope Steel slipped 1.2% despite reporting more than a doubling in first-half earnings. Bendigo & Adelaide Bank also fell 1.4% despite posting a higher statutory first-half profit. Markets now await a fresh round of earnings releases in the coming days, including BHP Group, Santos, Rio Tinto, and Goodman, alongside the RBA’s policy meeting minutes due on Tuesday.
