10 February 2026, 02:36 Canada: TSX Approaches Record Highs.
The S&P TSX Composite jumped 1.7% to close at 33,023 on Monday, nearing record highs amid a powerful rally in precious metals and broad-based gains across financials. Gold and silver miners led the advance, with Agnico Eagle, Barrick, Wheaton Precious Metals, Franco-Nevada, Pan American Silver and Kinross rising between 2.5% and 6.1% as bullion prices surged. Financials provided steady additional support, with Royal Bank, TD, BMO, Scotiabank and National Bank adding between 0.9% and 1.9% as domestic data continued to temper expectations for aggressive Bank of Canada easing. Technology and growth names also contributed, led by Shopify’s 5% surge, while Cameco climbed 5.4% as uranium equities extended their momentum. Energy was mixed, with oil prices stabilising after recent volatility, limiting upside in Canadian Natural Resources and Enbridge. Investor focus now shifts to a busy earnings slate, including results from Shopify, Agnico Eagle and Cameco later this week.
