8 January 2026, 14:21 Indonesia: 2025 Budget Deficit Hits 2.92%, Above Projections.
Indonesia's unaudited budget deficit for the 2025 fiscal year stood at IDR 695.1 trillion (2.92% of GDP), wider than the finance ministry's earlier forecast of 2.78% and higher than the 2.3% recorded in 2024, official data showed on Thursday. The deficit is the widest since 2005, excluding 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to finance ministry data. Government revenue reached IDR 2,756.3 trillion, or 91.7% of the target, with tax revenues at IDR 1,917.6 trillion, customs and excise revenues at IDR 300.3 billion, and non-tax state revenues at IDR 534.1 trillion. Meanwhile, government spending reached IDR 3,451.4 trillion, or 95.3% of the estimate. For 2026, the government is targeting a deficit of 2.68% of GDP and aims for economic growth of 5.4%, compared with a 5.3% target in 2025.
