US stocks traded higher on Monday at the start of the first full week of the year. The Dow Jones surged nearly 600 points to a fresh record high, while the S&P 500 gained 0.7% and the Nasdaq added around 0.9%. Energy stocks led the advance on expectations that US companies could benefit from the reconstruction of Venezuela’s oil infrastructure. Chevron rose 3.5%, Exxon Mobil gained 0.7%, and ConocoPhillips advanced 1.3%. Consumer discretionary and financial stocks also posted strong gains, with Goldman Sachs jumping 4.8%, JPMorgan Chase rising 3.1%, and American Express gaining 2.6%. Amazon climbed 3.0%, Meta added 1.9%, and Tesla surged 3.6%. Semiconductor stocks moved higher as well, including Micron Technology (+0.7%), Intel (+1.4%), and Nvidia (+0.5%). By contrast, utilities and healthcare shares underperformed.
