5 January 2026, 16:52  USA: Futures Rise, Oil Companies Soar.

US stock futures traded higher on Monday at the start of the first full week of the year. S&P 500 futures rose 0.3%, Nasdaq futures gained 0.7%, and Dow Jones futures advanced by nearly 60 points. Energy stocks surged in premarket trading after the US captured Venezuela’s President Maduro and his wife over the weekend, while President Trump floated plans for a US-led revival of Venezuela’s oil industry. Chevron jumped nearly 7%, Exxon Mobil gained almost 4%, and ConocoPhillips surged 6%. Semiconductor stocks also moved higher, with Nvidia up 1.5%, Broadcom adding 1.3%, AMD rising 2.9%, and Micron Technology gaining 3.6%. Other megacaps were mixed: Amazon (+0.5%), Alphabet (+0.4%) and Tesla (+1.6%) advanced, while Microsoft was little changed and Apple (-0.2%) and Meta (-0.1%) edged lower. Meanwhile, investors are looking ahead to a busy week of US economic data, highlighted by the December jobs report due Friday.
