5 January 2026, 16:45 USA: Treasury Yields Edge Down.
The yield on the US 10-year Treasury note edged down to 4.17% on Monday after touching four-month highs of 4.19% on Friday. The move came as traders monitored developments in Venezuela, with an initial dip in oil prices helping to ease concerns about persistent inflation. At the same time, the capture of Venezuelan leader Maduro and his wife by the US over the weekend heightened geopolitical tensions, prompting a modest increase in demand for safe-haven assets. Meanwhile, investors are bracing for a data-heavy week in the US, including the closely watched jobs report, which will provide further insight into the health of the economy. Money markets are currently pricing in two quarter-point interest rate cuts by the Fed this year, with roughly a 25% probability of a third reduction.
