14 January 2026, 03:56  Canada: TSX Edges Below Record High.

The S&P TSX Composite Index closed marginally lower at 32,870 on Tuesday, as strong gains in commodity producers were largely offset by a cautious broader tone following the release of US inflation data. Major miners including Agnico Eagle, Barrick, Wheaton Precious Metals, and Franco-Nevada rose between 1.3% and 3% after gold prices climbed to fresh record highs, supported by inflation figures that eased concerns over renewed price pressures. Energy stocks also advanced sharply, with Canadian Natural, Suncor, Imperial Oil, and Cenovus jumping between 2.6% and 5.9% on another firm session for crude oil, underpinned by lingering concerns that geopolitical unrest in Iran could disrupt supply from the region. Offsetting those gains, heavyweight financial and technology names weighed on the index, with Brookfield and Constellation Software falling 3.6% and 3.5%, respectively, and keeping the benchmark slightly in the red.
