12 January 2026, 15:11 Italy: FTSE MIB Kicks Off the Week in the Red.
The FTSE MIB opened the week on a negative note, falling 0.8% to around 45,360 in early trading on Monday amid renewed concerns over the US Federal Reserve's independence and rising geopolitical tensions. US federal prosecutors have launched an investigation into Fed Chair Jerome Powell related to his testimony before the Senate last June. Powell called the move as part of President Trump’s ongoing pressure on the central bank to cut interest rates. Investor sentiment was further shaken by escalating unrest in Iran. Trump said on Sunday that he was considering potential actions against Iran, while also discussing acquiring Greenland. Among the notable decliners were Stellantis (-2.8%), Italgas (-2.4%), Prysmian (-2.2%), Bper Banca (-1.8%), and Snam (-1.7%).
