31 December 2025, 01:43  Canada: TSX Finishes Marginally Lower.

The S&P TSX Composite Index edged 0.1% lower to close at 31,866 on Tuesday, as tech weakness outweighed strength in commodity producers. Mega-cap Shopify led the downturn after shedding 2.5%, followed by Celestica down 1.6% and Constellation Software losing 0.9%. On the other hand, energy heavyweights including Canadian Natural (+2.2%) and Suncor (+1.8%) outperformed as oil prices advanced, underpinning the sector as investors weighed uncertainty surrounding a potential Russia Ukraine peace deal alongside rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. At the same time, major miners such as Wheaton rose 1.3% as gold prices rebounded more than 1.5% following the prior session’s profit taking. The TSX remains on track to end the year up nearly 29%, marking its strongest annual performance since 2009, driven primarily by gains in heavyweight banks and gold miners.
