18 December 2025, 20:57  Italy: FTSE MIB Rises as ECB Holds Rates.

The FTSE MIB gained 0.8% to close at 44,463 on Thursday after the European Central Bank kept policy rates unchanged. Sentiment was also supported by a softer-than-expected US CPI print, reinforcing expectations that the Fed could deliver further rate cuts next year. Financial stocks advanced as stable ECB policy and a more dovish Fed outlook supported Italian bonds and narrowed the BTP-Bund spread. UniCredit rose 0.6%, Intesa Sanpaolo gained 0.9%, and MPS jumped 3.1%. Eni added 0.5% as oil prices extended gains amid Trump’s blockade of Venezuelan exports and reports of potential new US sanctions on Russian oil. The company also completed the sale of a 49.99% stake in its carbon capture unit to BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners. Leonardo led the index, up 4.1%, amid renewed uncertainty over peace talks in Ukraine. On the downside, Tenaris fell 2.7%, while Amplifon and TIM lost 0.9% and 0.6%, respectively.
