Canada’s S&P/TSX Composite Index closed little changed at 31,250 on Wednesday, failing to extend gains for a fourth consecutive session as losses in the financial sector weighed on the market. Royal Bank of Canada fell 0.4%, Bank of Montreal declined 1.4%, Bank of Nova Scotia dropped 1.7%, and Manulife Financial Corporation slipped 0.7%. By contrast, energy and basic materials stocks advanced, supported by higher oil and metal prices. Enbridge gained 0.7%, Agnico Eagle Mines rose 0.6%, Canadian Natural Resources climbed 2.2%, and Barrick Mining added 1.7%.
