16 December 2025, 13:51 France: Private Sector Flirts With Stagnation.
The HCOB France Composite PMI edged down to 50.1 in December 2025 from November's 50.4 and compared with market forecasts of 50.3, flash estimates showed. The latest data suggested near-stagnation in the French private sector, coming after a marginal expansion in the previous month, which marked the first growth since August 2024. Manufacturing activity (PMI at 50.6 vs 47.8 in November) showed signs of stabilization following November’s sharp and accelerated decline, while the services sector growth lost momentum (PMI at 50.2 vs 51.4). New business volumes fell as budget uncertainty, weak customer demand, and sluggish market conditions led clients to postpone non-essential purchases. Meanwhile, private sector headcounts experienced renewed growth. Input price inflation eased and remained well below its long-term trend. Prices charged were mostly unchanged due to competition, even as factory gate charges rose at the fastest pace in 16 months.
