16 December 2025, 02:10 New Zealand: Stocks Subdued.
New Zealand shares were little changed in Tuesday morning trade, hovering around 13,403, following a muted prior close, as strength in industrial services and energy minerals offset declines in consumer durables and transport. Investors weighed local data showing annual food inflation eased to 4.4% in November from 4.7% in October, while anticipating Q3 GDP figures due next week. On Wall Street, U.S. equities slipped Monday, though Nvidia’s gains helped limit losses. In top trading partner China, weak November activity data, notably industrial output and retail sales, underscored mounting external and domestic pressures heading into year-end despite efforts from Beijing to spur activity and stimulate demand. Among movers, PGG Wrightson (1.4%), Turners Automotive (1.3%), and Channel Infrastructure (1.1%) were higher. On the downside, Third Age Health Services fell 2.1%, followed by Auckland Intl. Airport (-1.5%), and Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (-1.3%).
