7 November 2025, 15:48 Malta: Industrial Output Falls for 1st Time in 14 Months.
Malta’s industrial production decreased by 1.3% year-on-year in September 2025, reversing an upwardly revised 5.3% growth in the previous month. This marked the first decline in industrial activity since July 2024, as manufacturing output dropped (-2.3% vs 6.7% in August), notably in other manufacturing (-11.7%), chemical and pharmaceutical products (-8.1%), and rubber and other non-metallic mineral products (-0.7%). Across main industrial groupings, production declined for capital goods (-12.2% vs 17.8%) and consumer goods (-7.3% vs -3.4%), while growth slowed for intermediate goods (8.8% vs 13.2%). Excluding energy, industrial output fell by 2.2%, after a 6.6% increase in the prior month. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity dropped by 1.6% in September, following a downwardly revised 1.0% gain in August.
