Retail sales in Romania dropped by 1.9% year-on-year in September 2025 from a 2.1% fall in the previous month. The latest figure marked the second consecutive month of decline in retail activity, as sales continued to decrease for trade in food, beverages, and tobacco (-6.7% vs -4.4% in August) and non-food products (-0.9% vs -0.4%). At the same time, sales growth slowed for automotive fuels (4.9% vs 5.9%). On a monthly basis, retail activity increased by 1.3% in September, reversing a 1.3% decline in the preceding month.
