Australia’s goods imports increased 1.1% month-on-month to a fresh record of AUD 40.64 billion in September 2025. The latest result followed an upwardly revised 3.3% growth in the previous month amid resilient domestic demand ahead of the holiday season. Purchases of capital goods jumped 6.7% to AUD 10.57 billion, boosted by capital goods n.e.s. (91.4%), ADP equipment (4.4%), and machinery and industrial equipment (3.0%). In contrast, imports of intermediate and other merchandise goods fell 0.4% to AUD 16.12 billion, weighed by processed industrial supplies (-2.2%), other parts for capital goods (-2.6%), and fuels and lubricants (-1.4%). Also, purchases of consumption goods dropped 1.2% to AUD 12.56 billion, rattled by textiles, clothing and footwear (-6.8%) and food and beverages, mainly for consumption. Meanwhile, imports of non-monetary gold shrank 0.9% to AUD 1.39 billion.
