3 November 2025, 05:43  Australia: Personal Spending Rises 0.2% MoM.

Household spending in Australia rose 0.2% mom in September 2025, following a marginally revised flat reading in the previous month. Expenditures picked up for both food (0.6% vs 0.1% in August) and health (0.7% vs 0.1%). At the same time, spending bounced back for furnishings (0.4% vs -0.3%), and recreation (1.1% vs -1.1%). In contrast, expenditures were weak for alcoholic beverages (-0.8% vs -1.1%), transport (-0.4% vs 0.6%), hotels, cafes and restaurants (-0.3% vs flat figure), and miscellaneous goods and services (-0.1% vs 0.6%). Regionally, New South Wales (0.8%), South Australia (0.6%), and Western Australia (0.5%) logged gains, while Queensland saw muted spending after a decline in August. In contrast, spending fell in Victoria (-0.3%), Tasmania (-0.1%), and the Australian Capital Territory (-2.4%). On an annual basis, household spending grew 5.1%, slightly accelerating from August’s 4.9%.
