Building consents for new dwellings in New Zealand rose 7.2% month-on-month in September 2025, picking up from a 6.1% increase in August and marking the third consecutive monthly gain. It was the fastest pace since May, with approvals reaching 3,339 units on a seasonally adjusted basis. The total comprised 1,634 townhouses, flats, and units, 436 apartments, and 76 retirement village units. In the year ended September 2025, 34,882 new homes were consented, representing a 3.6 percent increase compared to the year ended September 2024. In Q3 2025, there were 10,079 new homes consented, up 9.8% compared with Q2 2024.
