India's BSE Sensex saw a volatile session to close virtually unchanged at 85,706.7 on Friday, nearing record highs, as selective profit booking emerged after the recent upswing. Market sentiment remained buoyed by expectations of interest rate cuts by both the Fed and the RBI next month, strong growth prospects and optimism around trade negotiations with the US. Power Grid led losers, down 1.4%, followed by Bharti Airtel (-0.7%), Eternal (-0.7%) and Infosys (-0.6%). Among other laggards, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv and Axis Bank lost between 0.3% and 0.4%. For the week, the index rose 0.6%, and for the month it gained 2.1%, marking the fourth consecutive monthly increase.
