14 November 2025, 17:51 Canada: Wholesale Sales Rise More Than Expected.
Canada’s wholesale trade rose 0.6% month-on-month to C$85.9 billion in September 2025, the sixth increase in nine months, reversing a 1.2% decline in August and beating initial estimates for stagnation. Five of seven subsectors posted gains, together accounting for roughly half of total wholesale activity. The largest increases came from food, beverage and tobacco (+1.6%), building material and supplies (+1.9% to C$12.2 billion), and motor vehicles and parts (+1.6% to C$14.3 billion). Gains in the mineral, ore and precious metals industry group (+22.8% to C$1.2 billion) and in machinery/equipment in some regions partially supported the overall rise. Regionally, wholesale sales rose in seven provinces, led by Alberta (+2.0% to C$9.9 billion), Quebec (+1.2%), and British Columbia (+2.2%).
