12 November 2025, 03:40 Canada: TSX Rises for 3rd Straight Session.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.3% to close at 30,409 on Tuesday, extending Monday’s gains as strength in energy and materials offset weakness in tech names amid optimism the US government shutdown may finally end. The Senate passed a bill late Monday to reopen the government after the longest shutdown on record, a development that eased worries about stalled economic data and reduced a political overhang that had concerned some Fed officials. The energy sector led the advance with Canadian Natural Resources, Suncor, Imperial Oil and Cenovus each adding between 2.2% and 0.6%. Major miners also contributed to the lift. Tech acted as the counterweight with Constellation Software off 1.4% and Celestica retreating 3.8% on lingering valuation caution toward US AI leaders.
