Latvia’s trade deficit widened to EUR 356 million in September 2025, up from EUR 248 million a year earlier, as imports surged 13.5% to EUR 2,091 million, driven by higher purchases of machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment, vehicles, chemicals, mineral products, and vegetables. Meanwhile, exports increased more slowly, rising 8.8% to EUR 1,735 million, supported by higher sales of vehicles, vegetables, live animals and animal products, wood and wood products, and base metals.
