Key contributors included HSBC and AstraZeneca (+1.7% each), Rolls-Royce (+2.5%), BP (+1.3%), Shell (+0.9%), and British American Tobacco (+0.9%). Precious metals gained on expectations of a potential Fed rate cut, lifting miners Fresnillo (+6%) and Endeavour (+4%). Diageo surged 5.2% after appointing former Tesco CEO Dave Lewis, signaling a potential cultural reset. SSE rose over 4% as it explores funding options to support grid and renewable energy investments, possibly via a share sale or other measures.
