9 October 2025, 06:50 Indonesia: Retail Sales Growth Eases to 3.5% in August.
Indonesia’s retail sales rose 3.5% year-on-year in August 2025, easing from a 4.7% increase in the previous month. This marked the fourth consecutive month of annual growth, though at a softer pace, supported by ongoing government stimulus measures aimed at maintaining household purchasing power. The slower growth was mainly due to more modest increases in the sales of food, beverages, and tobacco (4.8% vs 5.1% in July), fuel (11.7% vs 14.4%), cultural and recreational goods (2.5% vs 5.2%), and automotive parts and accessories (11.3% vs 12.6%). Simultaneously, sales of household appliances declined (-1.8% vs 3.8%), while sales of information and communication equipment contracted faster (-28.9% vs -12.5%). On the upside, clothing sales surged (8.3% vs 0.2%). On a monthly basis, retail activity rebounded by 0.6% in August, following a 4.1% decline in July, the first monthly increase in five months.
