31 October 2025, 11:55 Switzerland: Swiss Retail Sales Rebound in September.
Retail sales in Switzerland rose by 1.5% year-on-year in September 2025, beating market estimates of a 0.3% increase and rebounding from an upwardly revised 0.4% drop in the previous month. The recovery was mainly driven by higher sales of information and communication equipment (19.9% vs 14.9% in August), food, beverages and tobacco (1.3% vs -1.5%), and non-food products (2.5% vs 1.9%). Additionally, sales increased further via online and mail order (3.5% vs 1.6%), while it declined less for cultural and recreational goods (-1.4% vs -1.8%). In contrast, activity decreased in service stations (-0.5% vs 2.7%) and household equipment and furniture (-0.3% vs 2%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade grew by 0.6% in September, recovering from a 0.2% loss in the prior period. Excluding fuel, retail activity increased by 2% from a year ago, following a 0.1% fall in August.
