24 October 2025, 09:39 China: 10Y Yield Rises as Trump-Xi Meeting Looms.
China’s 10-year government bond yield rose toward 1.78%, marking its highest level in more than a week, as investors turned their attention to the highly anticipated meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping next week. Trump is expected to potentially revive discussions on a long-sought nuclear arms accord and urge Xi to leverage his influence over Russian President Vladimir Putin to help bring an end to the war in Ukraine. At the same time, he has indicated plans to extend the suspension of significant tariffs on Chinese imports in exchange for renewed US soybean purchases, stricter enforcement of fentanyl export controls, and relaxed restrictions on rare-earth materials. Meanwhile, China’s Fourth Plenum concluded on Thursday with the Communist Party vowing to accelerate efforts toward technological self-reliance, a priority that has gained heightened urgency amid Washington’s escalating curbs on access to advanced semiconductors and other critical high-tech components.
