The FTSE 100 rose 0.7% to 9582 on Thursday, hitting a fresh record high, driven by strength in energy stocks and upbeat earnings. BP (3.7%) and Shell (+3.2%) were among the best performers amid surging crude prices, after President Donald Trump increased pressure on Russia, sanctioning Rosneft and Lukoil in a renewed effort to end the war in Ukraine. Precious metals Fresnillo (+5.9%) and Endeavour (+4%) also rose as gold prices halted a two-day drop. In corporate news, Rentokil shares jumped 9.8% after the pest control firm reaffirmed its full-year outlook and showed improving US sales momentum, easing worries about integrating Terminix. LSE shares climbed 6.7% after raising its margin guidance, announcing a 1 billion GBP buyback, and revealing a deal with 11 major banks investing in its Post Trade Solutions arm. The agreement, worth 1.15 billion GBP, will boost margins and profitability. Burberry also advanced 3%, buoyed by strong results from peer Kering.
