23 October 2025, 11:35  Taiwan: Retail Sales Fall in September.

Retail sales in Taiwan fell 2.2% year-on-year in September 2025, reversing a 0.4% gain in the previous month. The decline was mainly driven by further drops in automobiles and motorcycles (-17.2% vs -4.5%), fuel and related products (-7.5% vs -7.2%), and household appliances and goods in specialized stores (-5.0% vs -0.6%). Growth also slowed for cultural and recreation goods (7.1% vs 9.2%), general merchandise stores (2.1% vs 2.9%), and other retail sales (3.6% vs 7.0%). In contrast, sales rose faster for food, beverages and tobacco (3.9% vs 0.0%), retail trade not in stores or stalls (6.8% vs 4.5%), and electronic shopping and mail-order houses (9.5% vs 6.0%), while sales rebounded for communication equipment and household appliances (2.9% vs -1.5%). On a monthly basis, retail activity rose 0.6% in September, following a 0.8% increase in August.
