21 October 2025, 03:02  Canada: Government Cuts Tariffs on U.S., China Metals.

Canada has granted tariff relief on select steel and aluminum imports from the U.S. and China to support domestic industries hit by trade tensions. Prime Minister Mark Carney is in talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, who imposed tariffs on Canadian metals, while also engaging Chinese officials to ease levies on Canadian agricultural exports. In response to economic strain, Carney has reversed many retaliatory tariffs previously placed on U.S. goods. A recent amendment to the 2024 surtax remission order allows duty-free entry of certain Chinese steel and aluminum products not manufactured in Canada. The order took effect October 15, with further details to be released November 5. Additionally, the Ministry of Finance exempted some U.S. metal imports tied to “public health, national security, manufacturing, agriculture and food packaging,” according to an official document.
