Household spending in Australia rose 0.1% mom in August 2025, easing from a revised 0.4% increase in the previous month and marking the weakest gain since April. Expenditures slowed across transport (0.8% vs 1.5% in July), hotels, cafes and restaurants (0.3% vs 1.4%), and miscellaneous goods and services (0.8% vs 1.5%). Meantime, health outlays were flat after a 1.8% rise, while declines persisted in alcoholic beverages (-0.9%), furnishings (-0.1% vs -1.8%), and recreation (-0.9% vs -0.4%). In contrast, food spending edged up 0.1% after a fall in July. Regionally, Victoria (0.4%), South Australia (0.5%), Western Australia (0.3%), Tasmania (0.6%), and the ACT (2.9%) posted gains, while New South Wales (-0.2%), Queensland (-0.3%), and the Northern Territory (-1.2%) recorded drops. On an annual basis, household spending grew 5.0%, moderating slightly from July’s 5.3%, the fastest pace since November 2023.
