2 October 2025, 01:30 Canada: TSX Renews Record High.
The S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.3% to close at a fresh record of 30,108 on Wednesday as gains among major miners and Canadian tech offset caution after a partial US government shutdown threatened to delay key jobs data and cloud the interest-rate outlook. Investors remain wary of a slowing labour market, persistent inflation risks and elevated equity valuations concentrated in a few names. Safe-haven buying pushed gold to record highs, lifting Agnico Eagle and Barrick Mining, which gained 1.2% and 2.8% respectively, while Canadian tech leaders Shopify and Constellation Software added 0.9% and 1.4%. Broad strength in financials and energy kept the TSX on a constructive footing.
