Canada’s manufacturing sales fell 1.0% to $69.4 billion in August 2025, after a 2.5% gain in July, performing slightly better than market expectations of a 1.5% decline. Sales of transportation equipment dropped 5.7% to $10.7 billion, following a strong 7.7% rise in July, weighed by lower production of aerospace products and parts (-8.6%), motor vehicle parts (-5.2%), and motor vehicles (-3.3%). The food subsector also fell 1.9% to $12.9 billion, marking its second straight monthly decrease. Offsetting some of the declines, primary metals rose 3.6%, posting a second consecutive gain. Sales decreased in six provinces, led by Quebec (-1.6%) and Ontario (-0.8%). Year-to-date, total manufacturing sales were down 1.0%.
