15 October 2025, 15:48  Canada: Wholesale Sales Fall for First Time in Four Months.

Canada’s wholesale trade declined 1.2% month-on-month to C$85.4 billion in August 2025, the first contraction in four months, reversing a 1.2% gain in July but beating initial estimates of a 1.3% drop. Three of seven subsectors posted declines, together accounting for roughly half of total wholesale activity. The sharpest pullbacks came from motor vehicles and parts (-8.8%), led by the motor vehicle industry group (-10.7%), and food, beverage and tobacco (-3.8%), driven by lower food sales (-4.2%). Gains in the miscellaneous (+4.0%) and machinery, equipment and supplies (+2.3%) subsectors partially offset the overall drop. Regionally, wholesale sales fell in seven provinces, led by Ontario (-2.4% to C$43.8 billion) and Quebec (-1.0% to C$15.3 billion), while Saskatchewan bucked the trend with a 9.6% rise to C$3.9 billion.
