Visitor arrivals to New Zealand rose 7.5% year-on-year to 230,300 in August 2025, driven largely by a surge in visitors from Australia. Australian arrivals reached 103,060, an increase of 8,500, setting a record for August. Increases were also seen from China (+1,700), Taiwan (+1,600), and Japan (+1,200). Overall, arrivals in August 2025 were 92% of the 251,600 recorded in August 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Australians accounted for 53% of total visitors, up from 49% in July 2019, while China contributed 9%, the United States 5%, Japan 4%, and the United Kingdom 3%.
