10 October 2025, 13:19  Malaysia: Retail Sales Ease to 3-Month Low.

Retail sales in Malaysia grew by 5% year-on-year in August 2025, easing from a four-month high of 5.6% recorded in July. The latest figure marked the weakest growth since May, as sales slowed across most major components. Notably, growth moderated in food, beverages and tobacco (5.5% vs 6.1% in July), automotive fuel (5.3% vs 6.6%), information and communication equipment (3.1% vs 3.3%), household equipment (2.6% vs 3.6%), other goods (6% vs 7.6%), sales via stalls and markets (5.2% vs 5.5%), and trade not conducted in stores, stalls or markets (5% vs 5.1%). Conversely, sales edged higher for cultural and recreation goods in specialized stores (3.1% vs 3%) and sales in non-specialized stores (5.6% vs 5.5%). On a monthly basis, retail sales rose by 0.5% in August, rebounding from a 0.8% decline in July.
