Building consents for new dwellings in New Zealand increased 5.8% month-on-month in August 2025, reaching 3,080 units on a seasonally adjusted basis. This total comprised 1,492 stand-alone houses, 1,199 townhouses, flats, and units, 256 apartments, and 133 retirement village units. Over the year ending August 2025, the number of new dwellings consented per 1,000 residents stood at 6.4, unchanged from the previous year.
