8 August 2025, 11:17 United Kingdom: FTSE 100 Set to End Week Higher.
The FTSE 100 traded flat to slightly higher on Friday, led by miners. Fresnillo gained over 2% as gold futures rose on tariff reports, while Glencore (+1.9%) advanced on higher copper prices amid concerns over a Chilean mine closure. Rio Tinto added 0.9%. GSK climbed more than 1% after securing a $370 million settlement from CureVac over mRNA patents, plus a 1% royalty on future US sales of Pfizer/BioNTech’s related vaccines. CureVac, formerly partnered with GSK, is being acquired by BioNTech. Investors also weighed the Bank of England’s rate cut and its “gradual and careful” guidance, with a split vote highlighting inflation concerns, particularly over food prices. Market expectations for further cuts have eased. For the week, the FTSE 100 is slightly higher, rebounding from last week’s decline.
