8 August 2025, 06:57 India: Weighs Trade Concessions as Trump Tariffs Loom.
India is exploring trade concessions to the U.S. following President Trump's decision to impose a 50% tariff on Indian goods, citing continued purchases of Russian oil. With a 21-day window before the duties take effect, New Delhi sees a chance to negotiate and is not planning immediate retaliation, according to sources. A potential trade deal is a key option, with officials considering limited concessions in agriculture and dairy to meet US demands while protecting domestic interests. One proposal includes importing genetically modified corn for non-human use under strict traceability rules, Bloomberg News said. Trump’s executive order adds a new 25% tariff to the 25% announced earlier, intensifying pressure on India ahead of talks.
