The rally followed strong overnight performance on Wall Street, fueled by robust corporate earnings, as investors largely brushed off fresh US tariff announcements. President Donald Trump unveiled a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors, excluding firms building in the US, and doubled tariffs on Indian goods to 50% in response to continued Russian oil imports. Top performers included Fujikura (+5.3%), Sony Group (+4.1%), SoftBank Group (+1.3%), Socionext (+3.9%), and Mitsubishi UFJ (+1.9%). In contrast, chip-related names underperformed, with Tokyo Electron down 2.5% and Disco off 1.8%.
