Australia’s goods imports fell 3.1% month-over-month to AUD 38.95 billion in June 2025, reversing a revised 3.3% rise in the previous month, amid weaker domestic demand and concerns over global trade disruptions from broad U.S. tariffs. Arrivals of capital goods tumbled 9.1% to AUD 9.37 billion, pressured by capital goods n.e.s (-31.7%), machinery and industrial equipment (-6.9%), and industrial transport equipment n.e.s. (-16.2%). Purchases of intermediate and other merchandise goods were down 0.3% to AUD 15.28 billion, mainly weighed by processed industrial supplies n.e.s (-3.6%), other parts for capital goods (-3.9%), plastics (-4.7%), and organic and inorganic chemicals (-9.6%). In contrast, imports of non-monetary gold jumped 31.3% to near AUD 2.0 billion.
