6 August 2025, 17:52 Brazil: Ibovespa Rises amid Tariffs Effect.
The Ibovespa rose nearly 1% on Wednesday, trading above 134,000, as investors focused on the Brazilian government’s response to the 50% US tariff on Brazilian products, which came into effect. Market attention also turned to corporate earnings releases. On Tuesday, President Lula said he would not call US President Donald Trump to negotiate, claiming Trump does not want dialogue. However, Lula added that he intends to call Trump to invite him to the COP30 climate summit, scheduled to be held in Brazil later this year. In corporate news, CSN gained about 1% after announcing the sale of a new batch of Usiminas shares (+2.7%), cutting its stake in the rival to 4.99% in compliance with orders from the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE).
