5 August 2025, 15:55  Canada: Imports Rebound in June.

Canada's total imports rose by 1.4% over a month in June 2025, the first increase in four months, with gains seen in 5 of 11 product categories. The increase was largely attributed to a 27.7% surge in imports of industrial machinery, equipment and parts, for which a one-time high-value shipment was reported in June. A $2.0 billion jump in heavy equipment imports - linked to a one-time delivery for a Newfoundland oil project - was the main driver. Excluding this section, total imports were down 1.9%. Purchases of motor vehicles and parts were up 2.9%, following two consecutive monthly declines. Conversely, decreases were seen for consumer goods (-4.8%), of which miscellaneous goods and supplies (-10.8%) and pharmaceutical products (-8.8%), alongside metal and non-metallic mineral products (-7.8%). Among trading partners, imports from the United States rose by 2.6% in June, contrasting with a 0.3% decline in imports from other countries such as Switzerland (-37.7%) and China (-1.7%).
