5 August 2025, 14:36  India: Sensex Ends Slightly Lower.

India's BSE Sensex closed 0.4% lower at 80,710.3 on Tuesday, reversing yesterday's gains, weighed down by mixed corporate earnings and renewed global concerns after US President Donald Trump threatened steep tariffs on Indian goods. Trump announced plans to raise tariffs beyond the current 25%, accusing India of profiting from Russia’s war in Ukraine by reselling discounted Russian oil on global markets. Meanwhile, investors remained cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s policy decision on Wednesday, with the central bank widely expected to keep its key rate unchanged at 5.50%, despite calls for a cut in response to the US tariff threats. On the data front, final figures showed that India’s private sector grew in July at the fastest pace in 15 months. On the corporate front, Adani Ports, Reliance Industries and Infosys were the major laggards while Titan, Maruti, and Trent emerged as the top gainers.
