4 August 2025, 16:37 Brazil: Ibovespa Rises on Hopes of US-Brazil Trade Talks.
The Ibovespa rose nearly 1% to approach 134,000 on Monday, supported by hopes of progress in trade talks with the US. Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said he plans to speak with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, while President Trump noted Lula could call him anytime to discuss tensions over the 50% tariff on Brazilian goods. Lula responded that Brazil remains open to dialogue. International sentiment was shaped by expectations of a Fed rate cut in September, following a weak US jobs report and Trump’s abrupt dismissal of Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, raising concerns over data credibility and policy politicization. News that Trump may soon appoint a new Fed board member added to the unease. On the corporate front, CSN (+2.2%), Embraer (+0.7%), and Vale (+0.5%) gained, while Taurus surged over 10% after stockpiling US inventory ahead of the August 1 tariff. Oi (+2%) and Azul (+1.5%) rose, while Petrobras (-0.5%) and Gerdau (-1.6%) fell.
