29 August 2025, 15:02 India: Budget Deficit Widens.
The Indian government recorded a budget deficit of INR 4.68 trillion in first four months of the 2026 fiscal year, widening from the INR 2.77 trillion deficit in the corresponding period of the previous year. The result extended the momentum of deterioration in India's fiscal backdrop as growth concerns and threats of aggressive sanctions by the US drove the Indian government to increase economic support in the period. Government expenditure was at INR 15.6 trillion, sharply above the INR 13 trillion from the previous year, while net tax receipts were at INR 6 trillion and non tax receipts were at INR 4 trillion.
